Studies on ghe Four New Pulmonary Protozoa in Korea

Abstract
Author found the four new kinds of parasitic protozoa, Pulmonympha ficus, Pulmonympha mirabilis, Pulmonympha inpiditas and Pulmonympha utilis in the respiratory tract not yet have been reported -in Korea from the three patients who had complained of severe cough and dyspnea.
Each of the specimens was examined by direct smear and concentration method, and were stained with Haematoxylin-Eosin and Papanicolaou.
Author studied the morphology and staining properties of those protozoa, and further more reviewed the references.
The results obtained were as follow.
1. Parasitic protozoa were morphologically discriminated from the ciliated columnar epithelial cells in the trachea on the bases of their size, number of flagellum, and nucleus and movement.
2. The size of parasitic protozoa were measured 7.5 to 13 pX by 4 to 9 A in the length. and width of the worm body, 5 to 10 ft in length of the flagellum, and the number of flagella were counted 17 to 75 ac¡©cording to species and their movement were very active.
3. In. the staining properties, the both worm bodies and flagella were stained with purple by double stain¡©ing of Haematoxylin-Eosin and the former were stained with blue and the latter were stained with yellow by staining of Papanicolaou.
